Arthur Russell was maybe the most prolific non-prolific artist to ever live. He worked in wildly different musical lanes like disco, post-punk and classical minimalism and was known to take as many as 10 years to complete a track but would also produce as many as 300 versions of a song before deciding on a completed one, and as a result there was little of his material released in his lifetime. As a result he left behind a massive archive of over 1000 reels of tape after his death in 1992. Another Thought, released two years after his death in 1992 is the first of many posthumous Arthur Russell releases and focuses more on his minimalist side, with most tracks being built around his main instrument – the cello – and his unmistakable, haunting voice. There are a lot of ways to start with the vast and diverse catalog of Arthur Russell and this is as good of a place as any.
